Dear Colleague,

UW Research Coordinators and Consultants participated in our second Bargaining Session with members of the UW administration earlier this week! The UW admin team was not ready and requested to caucus for the first 1.5 hours rather than begin at our scheduled time. Updates and proposals added to our website throughout the bargaining process.

Highlights:

  • Our Compensation Proposals
  • Our initial compensation proposals included:
        • 5% salary increases upon ratification backdated to Sept 1, 2024 for anyone hired into the unit prior to April 1, 2024 – to account for the differences in raises RSEs have received over the past two years.
        • 3.5% increase on Nov 1, 2025; 1% increase on April 1, 2026 to match the current RSE contract.
        • Increase to salary minimums for all pay grades, including raising the salary minimums for CoCos from $47,292 to $56,436 to match RSE salary minimums as of Nov 1, 2025.
  • UW has not yet responded to any economic proposals, including our compensation package.
  • Agreement on Current Contract Language
    • The RSEs fought for and won a great contract in 2023, and the current contract language for many articles will improve our working conditions!
    • At the first bargaining session, we outlined the articles we wished to maintain the current contract language from the RSE collective bargaining agreement.
    • UW returned at the second bargaining session, agreeing to many of those articles! Browse through the list of articles and descriptions here.
  • UW Rejected Initial Proposals to Change Articles
    • We proposed changes to several articles to reflect the feedback from bargaining surveys and experiences CoCos have had at UW, including Exit Interviews, Health and Safety, Non-Discrimination and Harassment, and Professional Development, and UW rejected all of these initial proposals.
    • The proposed changes in these articles all centered on the theme of creating a safer, more equitable workplace for coordinators and consultants. CoCos are often required to take on the emotional labor of their workplace, and are the bridge between cutting-edge research and the people it’s meant to serve. Through these proposals, we’re asking that UW recognize this reality and take meaningful steps to ensure the CoCos feel heard and respected in our workplace.

We’re only just beginning! Bargaining sessions will continue through June and July, and all members are invited to attend! Below are the upcoming dates, RSVP here to attend!
